Ontario Utilities to Get a Proven, Canada-managed/operated Green Button Connect Toolset

UtilityAPI, Screaming Power and Utilismart Corporation have teamed up to offer the Ontario marketplace a proven Green Button toolset managed and operated in Canada. These three partners have decades of experience and deep expertise in the energy sector. They’re offering the Ontario energy marketplace a mature product that satisfies the demands of the Ontario Government’s mandate.

The team is looking to streamline utility adoption. They have made it as easy as possible for utilities to seamlessly fold this toolset into their existing offerings through whatever channel the utility prefers. The Ontario Green Button toolset can be an add-on to Screaming Power’s Scream Utility and Utilismart Corporation’s Settlement Manager, C&I Energy Manager and Consumer Engagement Platform products and other existing portals. Or, it can stand alone as a Green Button toolset, to be used in conjunction with existing utility customer engagement systems.

Ontario utilities were quick to see the value of this partnership. They’ve already given the toolset their nod of approval, by starting to implement it. The first system is primed to roll out in the first quarter of 2022.

The partners will work alongside third parties to put in place a secure, cost-effective Green Button infrastructure. Their product will be white-labeled, allowing utilities to launch new standards-compliant digitization and data strategies, while seamlessly enhancing the utility’s existing brand. The Ontario Green Button toolset is built on UtilityAPI’s Green Button Connect platform, already widely in use. That platform was tested by UL and certified by the Green Button Alliance. UtilityAPI built their platform to comply with the entire GBC standard, not just scrape past the minimum requirements. They have since further enhanced it — the full-featured platform now exceeds the province of Ontario’s minimum requirements.

Gary Michor, CEO of Screaming Power says, “It’s time for our existing and new customers to have a solution set that is not just on paper.  The Ontario Government requires utilities to be Green Button compliant by November 2023, and this team is in the best position to get this done. UtilityAPI’s platform integrates with 1000+ third parties already, and it is the most widely used Green Button toolset in the United States. There is no other company that comes close. We are excited to provide a service to Ontario with our partners as a Canadian-managed and -operated solution. The relationship with UtilityAPI and Utilismart Corporation is strong, with shared business philosophies and managed infrastructures. This synergy will save our Ontario utilities time and effort while providing a technically superior solution in Ontario.”

Devin Hampton, CEO of UtilityAPI agrees, “This is the just-right team at the just-right time. We need climate change solutions right now, not someday. We’re glad to work with our Ontario partners to offer what Ontario needs now to fight climate change and lower energy bills. Our three companies’ combined expertise lets us move fast. We can quickly bring to life the Ontario Government’s Green Button Initiative. Together with Screaming Power and Utilismart Corporation, we’re going to help Ontario individuals and organizations get access to their data easily and securely, while helping utilities control their Green Button implementation and certification costs.”

“Collaboration of technology leaders with reputation, experience, and proven technologies will accelerate the delivery of the Green Button requirements cost-effectively, providing benefits to all Ontario LDCs and their customers. Our joint effort will enable consumers to unlock additional data-driven energy efficiencies,” added Steve Ray, President of Utilismart Corporation. This enhanced Green Button toolset provides easy-to-use menus for customer, utility and 3rd party management. It will integrate into iOS, Android and web-based applications.
